Raven’s Progressive Matrices

Industry standard for measuring fluid intelligence

The Raven’s Progressive Matrices is the industry-leading, gold standard assessment of inductive reasoning ability. It measures the ability to make meaning out of confusion, formulate new concepts and solve
problems and tasks when faced with novel, complex information in unfamiliar situations.

Assessing inductive reasoning or abstract reasoning ability, it is ideal as a sifting tool for entry-level, supervisory and mid-management roles.

The Raven’s Progressive Matrices was first developed in the mid-1930s and in the intervening years, successive versions of the Raven’s test published to incorporate improvements and refinements to the assessment. The following versions of the Raven’s Progressive Matrices are available through Pearson’s digital assessment platform:

Raven’s Advanced Progressive Matrices (unsupervised)

  • 40 minutes administration time
  • Based on a large item-bank and suitable for online, unsupervised administration
Raven’s Advanced Progressive Matrices (supervised)
